Rihanna's Hair - The Changing Style!

Rihanna’s hair is always changing! Whether it be shade, style or length she seems to have tried everything and generally she is a girl that appears to do no wrong!

Known most recently for her vibrant red locks, Rihanna still likes to experiment with her styles and lengths whilst keeping her trademark shade.

Seen earlier this month in New York for the Costume Institute Gala Benefit, Rihanna’s hair was shockingly long! After the event she teamed her uber length bright red tresses with a simple cream outfit for maximum impact on a night out!

Headkandy 24-26” extensions are a time saving essential for Rihanna’s mermaid style hair and this loose and wavy hairdo is very easy to achieve with a large barreled tong! Although we’re convinced Rihanna created hers from her plait/braid she was seen wearing on the red carpet!

At the Billboard Awards 2011, Rihanna was trying out yet another style! Her waterfall of hair was gone and she was back to a cropped, choppy bob. Her shade appeared a little brighter than we have seen recently, but this could just have been in contrast to her white plunging suit.
Compared to her fiery red hair, her outfit was a little boring, but this soon changed when she stepped out on stage with Britney Spears. A slightly more revealing outfit and a more voluminous hairdo had her looking more like the rock chick she is!

We think Rihanna looks at her best when her hair appears a little more natural. At this year’s Grammy awards back in February we thought Rihanna’s hair was simply stunning. Going for a natural long bob and a spicy red shade, she looked super glam! Headkandy 12-14” extensions are perfect for adding the extra body and volume that Rihanna had at this event.

We loved this cut on the star, but it didn’t stay around for long! Although we’re not sure on her latest red carpet hairdo, we are sure her stylists are already creating her next look … we can’t wait to see what she does with her hair next!

Trend Alert: Waterfall Braid/Plait

The waterfall braid/plait is the latest style to emerge as part of this year’s plait/braid trend for spring and summer. Many people are confused about how to achieve this gorgeously girly look so follow our easy step by step guide to create your own waterfall braid!

Step One

If using your HeadKandy hair extensions for this look then be sure to fit them before you start styling. You may find that you will need to wear the side wefts a little higher on the head than normal to hide the top of the wefts.  A side parting can be helpful as you will have extra hair for coverage!

To start, part your hair in your normal parting and be sure to brush out any tangles. If you want to add waves to your hair it’s best to do this before you start with the waterfall plait. Then take a section from the front of your hair, right on your parting and split it into 3.

Step Two

Take the highest of your 3 sections and place it over the middle section, then take the bottom one and place over the middle section just as if you were doing a normal plait/braid. Angle your hands so that your hair is moving towards the back of your head and not down the side of your face for the next step.

Step Three

Before you move your top section over to the middle once again, you will need to pick up a little more hair from right beside the section, combine this with that section and fold over the middle section.

Step Four

Now instead of folding the bottom section over the middle you should drop that hair and pick up the section of hair that is hanging loose next to this section. As you fold this over the middle section you will see the section you dropped is now acting like a waterfall.

Step Five

You should continue with steps 3 and 4 until you have reached the point at which you want to stop! Some people start their waterfall braids on one side and continue all the way around and end with a normal braid/plait, others do one on each side and join them together and many just have them on the one side and secure them with a pretty accessory.

Whichever look you choose you’ll be sure to attract a lot of attention with this cute waterfall plait.

Trend Alert: Celebrity Auburn Hair Trend 2011

Scarlett Johansson is the latest celeb to join the 2011 auburn hair trend.

Scarlett Johansson’s red hair made its debut at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner earlier this month. Her new spiced berry tones follow closely on the heels of Drew Barrymore and Blake Lively who both changed their hair colour last month.

Drew Barrymore swapped her ombre locks for a sultry deep auburn shade and Blake Lively has dyed her blonde tresses a burnt copper!

We LOVE Drew Barrymore’s hair! We thought her ombre locks were great, but we think her new auburn hair is just gorgeous! You have to give Drew credit as she’s always quick to embrace the latest celebrity hair trends!

Blake Lively’s hair is a lovely, natural looking auburn. It’s not too much of a drastic change from her blonde hair and we really like it, but we think we do prefer her blonde!

We’re not so sure on Scarlett Johansson’s fiery tones though… we want to love it, but her new style just doesn’t look right to us at the moment … maybe Scarlett Johansson’s red hair will grow on us…

If you want to join the celeb auburn hair trend with HeadKandy extensions then shades Spiced Auburn and Deep Ruby would be perfect. Or for a more bold and dramatic red shade then Burlesque Red would be gorgeous with its deep and seductive berry red tones!

British Soap Awards 2011 Hair Styles

The stars were out in force last weekend for the annual British Soap Awards 2011; Voted for by the viewers, these awards are considered the most important by many of the stars and to others the red carpet ‘best dressed’ list is just as important as the awards themselves! With the Corrie, Eastenders, Emmerdale, Doctors and Hollyoaks girls there is always plenty of competition for ‘Best Dressed’, but here at HeadKandy we wanted to see the chosen red carpet hair styles for the big night!!

The Hollyoaks girls usually make the headlines for all the wrong reasons at this event, but this year they seemed to go for a much more demure style. We noticed this common theme wasn’t just reflected in their dress choices but also in the hairstyles with the majority choosing classy updo's!

We are big fans of Rachel Shenton, who plays glamour model Mitzeee on the show! Her hair always looks gorgeously thick and in great condition.

For this event she wore a floor length chocolate brown, silk dress that she looked stunning in. She wore her hair swept over in a side pony with big, bouncy curls. To achieve this look we recommend using large velcro or heated rollers or large barrelled tongs. A quad weft can add extra volume and bounce to this style! She completed her look and joined the big hair trend by opting for a huge quiff…  It didn’t quite rival the heights of Cheryl Cole’s hair or that of Sarah Jessica Parker, but it certainly gave Rachel Shenton’s hair a few extra inches!

Following in Rachel’s footsteps was Jorgie Porter, who plays Teresa McQueen. She wore a backless bright turquoise dress (according to her Twitter she didn’t buy the dress until the day of the awards!! How’s that for an excellent last minute wardrobe choice?!) Her side pony complemented her dress perfectly and we loved the leopard print shoes peeping from underneath Jorgie’s dress. Super cute!!

There were few mistakes in the style stakes from the Corrie cast ... named as ‘Sexiest Female’ for the 3rd year running, Michelle Keegan who plays Tina in the soap, arrived looking head to toe a star! Michelle wore a floor length glitzy, gold beaded dress and she accompanied this with a simple hair style to pull off the effortless glam look. Her hair was left down with what appeared to be very little styling. It wasn’t straight or curly just very natural with subtle oomph at the roots. We loved it!!

There seemed to be some controversy surrounding the outfit choice by Sophie Powles who plays Holly Barton in Emmerdale. She went for a rock chick look wearing tights that looked like stockings and hot pants! We loved her blunt heavy fringe and long curled hair (we’re just not so sure on the outfit choice!) and this just amplified her rock chick look! To re-create Sophie Powles tousled and messy tresses it would be best to use a medium barrelled tongs. If you are going to be adding extensions for extra length and volume, it’s always best to fit your Headkandy extensions first and style your hair and the extensions together as this will give a much more natural blend and finish.

Natalie Anderson, also from Emmerdale, was dressed very elegantly and was a stark contrast to many of her co-stars! Natalie’s floor length lilac gown with sequinned trim and a diamond bow belt was simply stunning. Her hair looked super glossy and shiny too; she left her style simple which complemented the elegance of her dress.

Overall the styles seen on the red carpet for the British Soap Awards were very elegant and demure … with the odd one or two catching the photographers gaze for the wrong reasons! We loved the hair styles this year and it’s hard to pick our fave …. But we think the award for best hair should go to Rachel Shenton who was bang on trend with her volumous locks ... her super quiff was following the big hair trend set by Cheryl Cole last week. We love it!

Trend Alert: Celebs With Big Hair

Cheryl Cole’s hair debut on the US X Factor recently seems to have sparked a celebrity ‘big hair’ trend as Sarah Jessica Parker and Elle Macpherson have both been spotted with super volumous locks!

Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker stepped out at the Robin Hood Foundation annual benefit in New York last week with a big and bold bouffant.
Sarah Jessica Parker’s hair is reminiscent of the 80’s style and requires some major root boost! Try backcombing your roots and applying some hairspray for extra volume or for an even bigger impact you can use a root crimping iron or velcro rollers! Try wearing an additional quad weft on the crown of your head for uber volume!

Supermodel Elle Macpherson’s big hair was a little more Bridget Bardot as she ditched the root boost and went for uber volume through the lengths of her hair. Using velcro rollers on your own hair and your HeadKandy hair extensions would be perfect for re-creating Elle Macpherson’s big and bouncy curls!!

Lady Gaga and Rihanna have also taken big hair to the extreme!
Lady Gaga, who is no stranger to exuberant hairdos, has been seen with a 60’s style beehive with a three-tone twist! Lady Gaga’s three-tone beehive consists of black, copper and white tones and it’s a statement style to say the least!!
Rihanna has been seen with her fiery red tresses styled in a super volumous ponytail to challenge even the biggest of celeb hairdo’s!

So girls, big hair is back and it’s definitely time to pump up the volume!!!

Britney Spears' Hair is Back on Track

Britney Spears’ hair extensions were looking much improved as the pop star stepped out onto the red carpet to host An Evening of Southern Style for The St Bernard Project… there wasn’t a visible weave in sight!

Her light blonde locks looked bouncy and healthy as they were styled in gorgeous jumbo curls for the event in Beverly Hills earlier this week.

Britney Spears, who was joined on the red carpet by her boyfriend Jason Trawick, also showed off her new slim tour figure in a lime green bandage dress with a plunge neckline.

Britney Spears' hair extensions were back on track and Brit was closer to looking her best, but we don’t think she’s completely there yet as some people have picked up on her messy brows for the event… c’mon Britney you’re nearly there and we’re really rooting for you!!

Other celebs at An Evening of Southern Style also wowed with their locks! Kim Kardashian flaunted her uber long and super straight look which complimented her tight-fitting white dress beautifully and Kelly Osbourne styled her hair in a high pony with a volumous quiff! Disney stars Hillary Duff and Selena Gomez also made an impression as Hillary Duff wore her golden locks in gorgeous ringlets and Selena Gomez wore her hair long and straight!

Cheryl Cole Hair - USA X Factor Debut

Cheryl Cole’s hair made it’s X factor debut in the States – styled with statement volume, this debut is one to remember. They may not have known who she was before, but Cheryl Cole certainly set tongues wagging with her 70’s inspired outfit and ‘crazy’ big hair do’! HeadKandy hair extensions are perfect for creating Cheryl Cole hairstyles!!

She may be the nations’ sweetheart in the UK, but Cheryl is relatively unknown in the States so sitting alongside Simon Cowell, LA Reid and Paula Abdul on the USA X Factor, Cheryl Cole needed to make an impact. Arriving in Los Angeles in a Rolls-Royce, the paparazzi were eagerly waiting to get the first snap of her. She rocked her seventies-inspired outfit  -  a tangerine Oscar de la Renta blouse, purple Diane von Furstenberg flares and bright turquoise belt which was the perfect accompaniment to her Farrah Faucet inspired hair.

To re-create the Cheryl Cole ‘uber volume’ hair you need to add lots of root lift at the top of your head and at the crown. You can achieve this with velcro curlers and lots of backcombing on your own hair to give you as much or as little lift as you like. You can also use an extra quad weft on the crown of your head for an extra volumous look.

To add some lose curls like Cheryl Cole, you can either use the velcro curlers on the lengths of your hair or you can use a large barrelled tongs or curling wand. Be sure to fit your extensions first and curl in with your own hair for a seamless finish. Once you have curled your hair gently ease your fingers through to loosen the curls and create a more tousled look!

Cheryl Cole has been the face of many L'Oréal Hair & Beauty products since 2009 and she is currently fronting the Elnette Hairspray campaign ‘Glam It. Rock It. Work It’, released in time for Loreal’s 50th birthday. Cheryl Cole shows off the different sides to her personality with hair styles ranging from a 60’s inspired bouffant and a pinned up faux-bob to an 80’s rock chick quiff - reflecting the bold statements made by the hair brand in the campaign.

Many people are wondering if her recent X Factor hair style has been influenced by the volume of her hair in this ad!

Here at Headkandy we think Cheryl Cole looks as gorgeous as always and is carrying the style flag for Britain in the US Xfactor. Bring on the live shows for even bigger hair!!
